Family Footnote 5: Five Things that Kelly is Thankful for this Season

I am thankful for so much in my life. My kids. My spouse. My dogs. My neighbors. My friends. My extended family. Shredded cheese. Warm socks. The list could go on forever! However, for this writing session I have limited myself to writing about only five things in order to keep it short and sweet.

Here is my November 2018 Thankful List:

1-Imagine Dragons

I love music and lately this band has been my family’s ultimate jam. I seriously hope when my kids look back on their childhood, they remember the countless times their mom and dad danced with them in the kitchen and living room. We love the new album, Origins, by Imagine Dragons and tons of other great tunes. I am sure I look like a complete fool to my neighbors who may catch a glimpse through our windows, but I try not to worry too much because we are tearing up rugs and making memories in my household. Currently the songs Natural and Zero are big hits for us, but Believer, Whatever It Takes, and Demons are also huge faves.

2-NaNoWriMo

National Novel Writing Month has shown Tessa and me that it is never too late to follow a dream or a really good plot. Fiction writing can be the best type of writing because it lets a person tap into an imagination they may not have known they had stored up inside of them. For the month of November I already have 36,627 words typed on a computer screen for NaNoWriMo (and saved in multiple locations for safekeeping).

3-Size 4 Diapers

My youngest is in size four diapers. This diaper size has always showcased the time when my babies begin to turn into toddlers. My little one is at that perfect 18-month-old age where he is trying to be a bit more independent, yet still needs to be rocked before naps and snuggled constantly. I never knew if I would be lucky enough to get four kids, so I am super thankful to be buying size four diapers in bulk this season.

4-Dental Insurance

My five-year-old lives life so very hard and therefore I am very thankful for dental insurance. I would also like his two front teeth for Christmas, but I am told that the wait-list will probably be about two years. The reason being is that my preschooler insists on traumatizing (and re-traumatizing) his front central incisors. So instead of losing them naturally by wiggling and pulling, we have to go the nitrous oxide route with assistance from dental professionals. Be it rollerblading, running, scooter-boarding, or some other energy filled activity, my son’s teeth take a banging. Yet he never slows down and I am thankful for that.

5-Holidays

I LOVE seeing social media inundated with people’s excitement for Turkey Day, Black Friday, holiday tree lighting, festive decorating, and more. It is a beautiful break from the snarky political attacks and bah-humbug nonsense that gets shared way more than necessary. So put those wreaths on the doors, spread the love for elf on the shelf traditions, and build a snowman whenever it works. I love seeing the good moods associated with the holidays.

Happy Early Thanksgiving to all!

What are you thankful for this season?
