Kelly’s Magazine Article in Black Hills FACES

Throughout the past couple of years, I have had the pleasure of writing for Black Hills FACES Magazine. I love being a regular contributor for them because it means I get to meet interesting and exciting people from South Dakota. My most recent article was a profile piece on Anne Abernathy. Her name can be found in the Guinness Book of World Records. She is a former Winter Olympian and currently training in Yankton, South Dakota to qualify for the 2020 Summer Games in Toyko, Japan.

A World Record Holder

Anne Abernathy is in her mid-60’s and pretty new to the sport of archery. Yet, she is entering international competitions and coaching collegiate athletes to superior showings. Her story is an amazing one and I am honored that I got to meet her, interview her, and write about it all.

My family also benefited from this incredible job that I have of meeting amazing individuals. My interview with Anne took place at the National Field Archery Association’s headquarters in Yankton. Therefore, my children got to experience a group archery lesson, while I chatted up an honored Olympian.

It was a professional experience that I will never forget. My children and my husband will also have great memories from that afternoon. I worked, but I also got to introduce my family to something unique, special, and highly enlightening.

Past Stories on FACES

It is a beautiful publication and the stories are all about Midwest people doing awesome things. Back issues with some of my articles are also available for viewing online. Some of my earlier works feature award-winning dance instructor Melissa Strong (page 16) and KMEG Meteorologist Lynnette Grant (page 28).
