Fiction Writing Update

Flash Fiction

Kelly and I love creative non-fiction, but we also enjoy exploring fiction pieces. My short story Revolutions was recently picked up by A Story a Day. Julie Duffy runs this website for writers. She’s phenomenal when it comes to spreading the news about new work. My story, Revolutions, was originally published by Empty Sink Publishing and was my first ever flash fiction. Flash fiction stories are full pieces written anywhere from 500 to 1500 words in length. You can read the full text here.

First Novel

In addition, the first chapter of my novel Justice was accepted into Fine Lines Literary Journal. Fine Lines is a journal published quarterly and can be purchased on Amazon, at Barnes and Nobles, or online here. I’m hoping to get the full novel published soon. Here’s an excerpt:

Lainey loved to look at the river from above. On her runs, she took
time to stop on the dock overlooking the sandbars and breathe in its
thick, mossy scent. The power in its current taunted her, and if she
was honest, terrified her. Her mother warned Lainey at a young age
to never touch the river. “Don’t even go close to the shoreline, Lainey.
Even on the rocks, the river can whisk you away before you know it.”
When she was little, her mother’s warning scared her enough to keep
her on the octagon-shaped dock, but now, at the age of 17, in this small
town where she knew she’d spend her foreseeable future, she invited
thoughts of being swept away by the current. It had to be better than
standing still.

She backed away from the edge and stretched her arms down to
touch her running shoes. She acknowledged with gratitude the pull
of her hamstrings and enjoyed this brief moment of pause. She pulled
her long and lean body back up and tightened her high ponytail as she
gazed out to the current one more time. Even tied up, her long, blonde
hair touched the middle of her back. She turned her blue eyes from
the river and glanced at her watch. Shoot. It was 4:25; she was late.”

Exciting things are happening this summer. Stay tuned for more writing celebrations, and thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for supporting Family Footnote.
