Helping Others Find a Writer Inside
Many of our readers know that Kelly and I have loved writing for a very long time. It was never “if” we would start, it was just “when”. The added bonus was that we found a way to write together. We hold each other accountable, and Kelly’s work inspires me to create even more work. The creative life is where it’s at, and it’s a beautiful way to carve out a spot in the world while parenting, teaching, and juggling adulting. Because I’ve found so much fulfillment in these areas, I’ve been brewing up a business that has finally found its feet.
A Writer Inside
Getting groups together to write and share is not a new concept. Only, I wasn’t so much interested in the critique side of things. I wanted the inspiration side to be prominent. I knew I’d see writers unearthed, and I wanted to spoil them because they managed to carve out two hours in their busy schedule for themselves. My first Writer Inside meeting was a success.
It was an evening full of creativity, inspiration, and incredible fun. The writers who attended wrote phenomenal pieces in just two hours. Our next meet-up is September 4th, and a new mixture of writers will be experimenting with even more aspects of the craft. Some of the attendees have sent me what they’ve written since the meeting, and their work is next-level impressive. I cannot wait to see what they continue to create.
Book of Prompts
My second endeavor involved a book of writing prompts. Not every person who is housing a writer inside has the ability to get away for a couple of hours, so I had to come up with a solution. I wanted to try self-publishing for two reasons: The book could be released faster and because I had never tried it.
Self-publishing was a learning experience, and now my book is out! It’s a collection of 30 prompts for 30 days of writing. Each prompt asks the writer to reflect and aims to turn the writer’s focus to the future in a positive way. It truly is a book to get writers started on their creative path.
Future
The future is bright for A Writer Inside. I plan to have an October meet-up in Sioux City and another in Omaha. Online meet-ups are coming soon for those who don’t live in my area and would like to start writing. You’ve heard of jewelry parties and Pampered Chef parties, right? Writing parties are just around the corner. My website offers coaching packages for those who would like to begin bigger projects like blogs, memoirs, novels, poetry, and short stories.
I feel very blessed to be able to get writers started. The creative life is the best life. There are so many limits in this world, but when we make time to dream, create, and explore, we are truly limitless.
