To My Alcoholic Friend

Growing up does not get easier with age. I am well into my 30’s and still find myself confused and distraught over situations that are beyond my control. I wrote “To My Alcoholic Friend” quite awhile ago, but it took time and courage to submit it for publication. It is a vulnerable piece on the tough subject of addiction and alcohol abuse. Her View From Home gave my story a voice, and I am glad because they are a website filled with writing that is supportive and endearing.

Addiction is a horrible disease and I know too many people that struggle with it. The grief, the pain, and the questions that come from seeing someone you care about grapple with addiction is heartbreaking. I wrote “To My Alcoholic Friend” in the hopes that it will speak to the complications and confusion associated with a greedy disease that is relentless and so very damaging.
