Series You Should Be Streaming This Fall

Like most mothers, I never feel like the TV is mine. I have come to terms with that, but there is a time for TV I steal for myself that I call the golden hour. I have loved many different Netflix and Amazon Prime HBO add-on Video Selections during the golden hour like Sharp Objects, Girls, and Game of Thrones. Like them, the streaming pleasures I’m about to recommend are next-level good and just the escape I need.

Big Little Lies starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman

This summer, I was head over heels for Big Little Lies. If you have Prime streaming, you would need to get the HBO add-on to watch. This series is in its second season and boasts a heavy-hitting cast of characters like Zoe Kravitz, Nicole Kidman, and Meryl Streep along with Witherspoon and Kidman. It is based on the book by Liane Moriarty–one of Kelly’s favorite authors. This show is humorous and shocking in all of the ways that mind candy should be.

The first season’s story centers around five well-to-do families and the secrets looming over them. When a major fundraiser turns deadly, the five women find themselves in the middle of a storm that quickly spins out of control. It is torturous waiting for a new episode each week. If you haven’t started this series, consider getting yourself your own golden hour and begin watching.

Schitt’s Creek starring Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara on Netflix

Eugene Levy and his son star in this hilarious Netflix series. Eugene plays Johnny Rose, a once successful business owner of Rose Video. He and his family find themselves suddenly broke, and they are forced to move to Schitt’s Creek, a small town they bought as a joke. The town is the opposite of what the Rose family is used to, and viewers get to watch the characters navigate life in a small, unattractive town. This show is tummy-busting funny. Any time Dan Levy speaks I cannot contain my laughter, and Catherine O’Hara absolutely nails her role as an actress forced to completely change her lifestyle and deal with the common-folk of Schitt’s Creek. It is laugh-out-loud funny. Do yourself a favor and begin this series today.

Ozark starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney

Do you and your significant other have a show you must watch together? My husband and I have had many over the years. The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Narcos, and Better Call Saul are four that have brought us together cinematically. If you watch any of those (and you totally should), make sure the kids are tucked securely away in their beds. These are grown-up only shows for sure. The two series we watch together right now are Ozark and The Handmaid’s Tale.

Ozark is on Netflix and features Jason Bateman as a financial adviser turned criminal. He, his wife (Laura Linney), and their two children must flee the big city for a town in Missouri to hide from very dangerous men. Forced to launder money to stay alive, Bateman’s character runs into even more crime in this small town. Ozark starts slow but builds at an enjoyable, jaw-dropping pace. Our TV time together is limited, so my spouse and I are still working our way through this suspenseful series.

The Handmaid’s Tale starring Elisabeth Moss

A few years ago, I happened upon the book The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The book is an unforgettable read and one that I recommend to many friends. Three years ago, The Handmaid’s Tale appeared on Hulu. Just like the book, it is a show that will make your heart race. Offred (played by Elisabeth Moss of Mad Men) is a handmaid in the Republic of Gilead of what used to be the United States.

Low reproduction rates force handmaids to carry children for well-to-do couples, making them slaves for leaders in The Republic. The show is shocking and maddening, yet it is one that will leave you wanting more. Season 1 is based on the novel, while Seasons 2 and 3 are Hulu’s creation and equally intense. Check out Handmaid’s this fall if you get a chance.

There you have it. What do you recommend we try this fall? We’d love to hear from you!

Really enjoy when you & Kelly drop these reads!!!!

HBO — tough to pick just one as HBO always kills it with content. Go to your local library and checkout Showtime series Billions — 100% Binge worthy! Libraries are the new Blockbuster but free. You’re welcome subscribers 🙂

Netflix — The OA is unique, extremely dark, bit out there, and at times very slow but it pays off and will literally shock you from time to time which is why I continue to watch. Recommendation for the kiddos Trollhunters (Kelsey Grammer lends his voice) & 3Below Tales of Arcadia (Nick Offerman is great as voice of a tough guy that gets into unique situations). This is for the kids….but I often found myself sitting down with them to watch episodes on late summer nights.

Disney Streaming plug…..this series is coming out in November 2019 and could be an indicator of what to expect future forward content wise!!! Disney streaming only cost like $4-7 bucks a month depending on length of subscription. We plan to check it out this winter and dump Netflix for a spell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOC8E8z_ifw

Thanks for making my morning Tessa. We will try out Big Little Lies down the road. Local library better have it.
