Family Footnote Hits 600 Subscribers!

I remember when Tessa and I started this blog and our only goal was to get 100 subscribers. We actually would have been thrilled with 50 subscribers. Anything over ten meant that more people then just our parents, kids, and siblings were reading what we wrote.

Writing can be a grind, but it is mostly just a pleasure. Getting words out in print for others to see is exciting and scary all at the same time. The best compliments associated with writing always come from the readers of Family Footnote. It is fun to have someone stop me and say they enjoyed a post or could really relate to whatever crazy mom topic I tackled that week. Praise and feedback give us as writers the courage to continue churning out the word counts.

As Footnote grows, so do our writing ideas. I am freelancing up a storm and Tessa has squeezed in work as a writing coach with The Writer Inside, in addition to her: teaching, mothering, and publishing. All of our success comes back to starting this blog and finding a writing voice that works for us. Whenever I am submitting an article or pitching an idea to a new publisher or editor, I send them links to Family Footnote. It is from there that I hope they can see my style and recognize my commitment to this craft.

As Tessa and I look to the future, we have great things in mind for this blog. I want to push for 1000 subscribers! (Hint, hint…tell your friends, families, neighbors, postal workers, coffee baristas, and Target cashiers to look us up on the web!) We have also started laying the groundwork for a Family Footnote book that would be comprised of some of our best stuff. Stay tuned on that one, but here is hoping the book can be available in time for the holidays.

Family Footnote merchandise may also soon be coming to our website. I mean who doesn’t want a t-shirt that says “I need a hula-hoop of space at all times”? or “Cul-De-Sac Justice”? Or how about a coffee mug with our cute little footprint emblem?

Other goals include writing more in the moment because that seems to really resonate with our readers. Embracing household chaos, corralling strong-willed children, or saying good-bye to a pet are the issues many of us deal with in everyday life. I want nothing more than for people to read our stuff and nod along like they get it. You know?

So congrats Family Footnote on 600 subscribers and cheers to gaining 600 (or a million) more!
