Happy 4th Anniversary!

Four years ago I made a change. I quit a job that I had been employed at for over a decade in order to pursue writing and continue staying home with my kids. It is something I have never once regretted.

Tessa and I are celebrating Family Footnote’s four year anniversary. So much of our writing success has been because of this blog. It made us commit to posting, publishing, submitting, and putting our words out there for others to see.

Writing What We Know

Since day one we have been connecting with readers. We work hard to write about ourselves and our families in a way that others will relate. Family Footnote has been an incredible outlet when it comes to poking fun at ourselves with posts about potty training, mom brain, and toddler tantrums. It has also been there for our more serious prose about finding a work/life balance, seeing the disability before the person, or handling the loss of a loved one.

Four years is a great milestone, but I experience a mini-celebration every time I post a blog and someone shares it, comments, or reaches out to me to discuss a topic. The feedback and appreciation from others are amazing and something writers crave.

Family Footnote’s First Book

Our biggest accomplishment this past year (or in the history of our blog) was publishing the first Family Footnote book titled “Full House Full Hearts”. Having enough material to make chapters and fill pages is unbelievable to me, so thank you, readers, for pushing us to write and publish. To order a copy of our book, click here

Another recent accomplishment for us is the creation of merchandise in honor of Family Footnote’s fourth birthday. It seemed like a fun and fitting way to showcase the blog and how much we love writing. Our favorite tag lines now grace the front of a shopping tote and go-to coffee mug.

Other Published Works

My annual anniversary post would not be memorable without a few mentions regarding what I am up to outside of Footnote. Black Hills FACES is still one of my favorite publications. They keep letting me hang around as their eastern side of the state contributor. My recent articles for them have included a spelling bee champion, a lego robotics expert, and an olympian.

I still have fun with satire for MockMom and this past November marked my second consecutive Nanowrimo of writing 50,000+ words of fiction. Motherhood continues to offer tons of inspiration when it comes to writing. It also gives me some days when no productive copy gets written, but such is the freelance life.

I still have big book goals, and I am thankful for the regional outlets that allow me to interview incredible people with amazing stories. As a writer, I can learn so much from others in the short span of a 45-minute interview and I love it! Everyone on the planet has a tale to tell and I am grateful to all those who trust me with their story.

Tessa is also off the charts busy. She is my favorite (and only) co-worker while also teaching full-time, parenting full-time, writing in her scraps of spare time, and running a business that offers writer workshops and coaching services. It is called A Writer Inside and I love everything about it.

Looking ahead, we plan to keep cranking out content that makes readers laugh, cry, or maybe a little of both. Keep telling us about the topics you want to read about on Family Footnote and we promise to keep oversharing.
