Happy Four Years To Us!

In this crazy time of life, it is so relaxing to think about something constant. Something sustainable. Something healthy. This year, marked the fourth anniversary that Kelly and I have been contributing to Family Footnote. In our time together, the world has changed, our lives have changed, and writing has changed. One constant we can both count on is that our four-year-old partnership grows stronger each month.

Four years ago, “Work” by Rhianna and Drake was the number one song, Me Before You and All the Light We Cannot See topped the New York Times Best Seller list. My daughter was still in daycare, and Kelly’s youngest wasn’t even born yet. When I think back to prepping days before we released our blog, my strongest memory is me sitting in a Barnes and Noble’s cafe as we texted titles back and forth to each other for hours. It seemed coming up with a title for our blog was even harder than naming our babies. Kelly and her husband came up with Family Footnote, and the rest is history.

Favorite Stuff

Throughout this writing journey, I have loved satire and writing about teaching teens. Getting published in HuffPost Parents was a goal of mine, and the articles they published are some of my favorite. Family Footnote brought gifts my way I would have never foreseen without it. Omaha Moms Blog, Fine Lines Creative Writing Camp, and my new endeavor: A Writer Inside are just some opportunities that Family Footnote has provided.

Writer Inside Write-Ins

This last year, I have hosted about one Write-In event a month since July through my business, A Writer Inside. These meetings are next level inspiring. We meet, we eat, we write, and we laugh. Each meeting is different, and it takes me back to four years ago when Kelly and I were beginning to feel the magic of writing together.

So much is temporary right now, and the write-in attendees are finding a way for their voices to be infinite through memoir writing, poetry, and prose. My newest adventure is having us all meet virtually while COVID-19 has us indoors.

Goodies

Our blog has created a community of people who are working to make the best choices for their families. Our readers are intelligent, funny, and talented people. Because of our readers, we were able to publish our first book, make our first coffee cup, decal, and carrying totes. Stay tuned for more merchandise later this spring.

What’s Next

Kelly and I have so many ideas for what’s next. Our blog is growing right alongside our families. I am so thankful for Family Footnote, but the best part of it for me is working with one of my best friends each week. I am forever thankful that I get to work with one of my favorite authors. Here’s to four years!
